FAQ
What can I expect from therapy?
People come to therapy with a wide variety of problems. Some are as simple as “I would like to have better communication with my spouse, partner, children, or friends. Other issues are more far reaching such as “We have drifted apart.”, "My partner was unfaithful", "Past events are still affecting me".
You can expect your therapist to be a warm individual who listens to your problems and helps you formulate the goals that YOU want to achieve. This involves conversations with the therapists and often, trying out some new behaviors, patterns of speech, or ways of thinking.
How long will it take?
The answer to this one is a lot less concrete. It depends greatly on what it is that you would like to change. If it is a small behavioral change, it might only take 3-6 sessions. If the issues are more complex, it could take significantly longer. It is important to know that you are not signing up for a specific time period. Progress will be evaluated regularly by both you and your therapist.
How long is a therapy session?
A typical therapy session lasts 45-50 minutes. Often sessions are scheduled weekly for the same time, on the same day of the week. Many people find it helpful to schedule 90 minute sessions. Other people want to be seen twice a week for more acute problems.
What if it is not working?
Therapy is not a process like getting your car fixed. There is not one set way to “fix a mental health issue.” Please feel free to raise any questions or concerns you have about your progress and they will be handled in a timely and genuine fashion.
How much does it cost?
Rates are $120 per session. I currently accept Anthem BCBS, Husky A,B,C,D, and CIGNA.
